Revigrés and REGA ENERGY sign long-term strategic agreement for biomethane supply

Revigrés aims to lead the decarbonisation of the ceramics sector by replacing fossil natural gas with biomethane in its industrial processes, strengthening both the sustainability and competitiveness of its products.

REGA ENERGY and Revigrés, a leading Portuguese manufacturer of ceramic wall and floor coverings, have signed a landmark long-term agreement for the supply of biomethane, reinforcing their commitment to energy transition and industrial decarbonisation.

Under the agreement, REGA ENERGY, a renewable energy company, will supply biomethane to Revigrés for a period of 10 years. The renewable gas will be produced at REGA ENERGY’s production units currently under development in Portugal and delivered with guarantees of origin and sustainability certification.

This partnership will enable Revigrés to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of its operations by integrating renewable gas directly into its production process—without the need for technical modifications. By replacing around 20% of its natural gas consumption with biomethane, the company is adopting a highly efficient and immediately deployable solution, marking a decisive step towards the decarbonisation of its industrial activity.

Revigrés is implementing a comprehensive Integrated Plan for Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency, which includes various initiatives to reduce CO₂ emissions and optimise the use of energy and water. This commitment to sustainability was recently recognised with the Sustainability Initiative Award.

In addition, the company recently achieved ISO 50001 certification, an international standard for energy management systems. This achievement reflects Revigrés’ commitment to continuous improvement of its energy performance, the promotion of renewable energy sources, and the reduction of operational costs and environmental impacts. Revigrés, headquartered in Barrô, Águeda, is proud to be the only company in the ceramics sector to hold five integrated management system certifications.

“This agreement with REGA ENERGY is a major milestone in our sustainability and innovation strategy,” said Revigrés. “It sets us apart and enhances our long-term competitive edge.”

For REGA ENERGY, this partnership with Revigrés “is fully aligned with our mission to accelerate the development of a competitive and sustainable industrial sector in Portugal. We believe that making ‘Made in Portugal’ truly ‘Made Sustainable’ will generate long-term economic, environmental, and social value, and drive competitiveness across the national industry.”
