Primus Ceramics invests in sustainability and signs biomethane supply contract with REGA ENERGY

The Portuguese ceramics company aims to decarbonize its production processes and deliver more sustainable products.

Primus Ceramics, a national reference in the ceramics sector, has signed a biomethane supply contract with REGA ENERGY to support the decarbonization of its production processes — a strong commitment to sustainability.

Under the 10-year agreement, the Portuguese renewable energy company will supply 4.75 GWh/year of biomethane, covering around 25% of the energy consumption needs of Primus Ceramics’ factory located in the Taboeira Industrial Zone, in Aveiro.

Founded in 1969 — then as Primus Vitória — the small-format tile producer has consistently invested in innovation and in the adoption of technologies and processes that reduce its carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, making its products more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Recently, the company — which exports 75% of its production — installed the first ceramic dryer in the sector powered 100% by electricity from renewable sources, marking a disruptive innovation in the ceramics industry.

“With this new agreement, we reinforce our commitment to sustainability and innovation, which has guided us for more than five decades. This vision has enabled us to grow and strengthen our reputation for quality, both in Portugal and abroad,” said Paulo Almeida, Advisor to the Board of Primus Ceramics.

“REGA ENERGY works every day to accelerate the advent of a sustainable industry. With every contract we sign with Portuguese manufacturers, we contribute not only to industrial decarbonization but also to building a future where products are Made in Portugal, Made Sustainable,” said João Rosa Santos, Commercial Manager at REGA ENERGY.
