Green Hydrogen Project in Marinha Grande Receives Favourable Environmental Impact Statement

The “Nazaré Green Hydrogen Valley” project consists of a centralized Hydrogen and Oxygen Production Unit to be installed in Marinha Grande, aiming to partially replace the fossil energy currently used by the region’s glass and cement industries.

REGA ENERGY’s project to install a green hydrogen and oxygen production unit in Marinha Grande — an investment of approximately €100 million — has received a favorable but conditional Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Developed by its subsidiary REGANAZARÉ S.A., the “Nazaré Green Hydrogen Valley” project consists of a centralized Hydrogen and Oxygen Production Unit (H2U) to be located in the Casal da Lebre industrial zone, in Marinha Grande. The facility’s production is intended to partially replace the fossil energy currently used by the region’s glass and cement industries.
This facility will provide local industries with access to modern infrastructure that expands their options for decarbonising production processes, contributing to greater energy autonomy and security, as well as enhanced resilience in meeting national and international decarbonisation targets. The implementation of this project will also be a driver of transformation, modernization, and differentiation for the municipality of Marinha Grande, contributing to the retention and attraction of new industries and jobs.
The conditions imposed by the Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Centro (CCDR Centro) relate mainly to the possibility of archaeological findings during the construction phase, as well as the need to ensure compatibility between the planned underground infrastructure and the existing subsoil networks.
This milestone marks another step toward fulfilling REGA ENERGY’s mission: contributing to a more sustainable future by supplying clean, renewable energy that enables industries to produce more sustainable, higher-value products.
