CERTECA and REGA ENERGY sign agreement for biomethane supply

Portuguese ceramics company leads a more sustainable industrial production in flooring and coatings, replacing fossil natural gas consumption with renewable gas biomethane.

CERTECA Indústrias Cerâmicas SA (Ceragni Group) and REGA ENERGY have signed a biomethane supply agreement for a period of 10 years. This long-term agreement will allow the leading ceramics producer to decarbonize, replacing 20% of its natural gas consumption with renewable gas.

CERTECA will enable the production process in flooring and coatings at the company’s site in Anadia, Portugal, with biomethane produced by REGA ENERGY. The renewable gas will be sourced in Portugal from organic waste and local farming reinforcing the shared corporate commitment towards a sustainable industrial production.

Biomethane plays a key role in the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries in line with the European Green Industrial Deal, replacing fossil natural gas without the need to adapt industrial processes. Biomethane is produced from organic waste, making it an efficient and fast solution to reduce CO2 emissions. This gains relevance across industries such as ceramics where high temperatures and the consumption of large volumes of natural gas are required.

“At CERTECA, we believe in a more modernized and sustainable industry for the future. This agreement with REGA ENERGY is an important step in meeting the EU’s decarbonization goals. It enables our production to meet the expectations and conscious choices of our customers “said Raúl Magalhães CEO of CERTECA,

“For REGA ENERGY, this is one more meaningful industrial partnership for the long-term supply of biomethane, made in Portugal. It is a shared commitment with a leading industry player, and very much in our DNA to drive the manufacturing of sustainable and competitive products Made in Portugal, Made Sustainable. We want to support the country’s commitment to decarbonization at a global stage,” said João Rosa Santos, Head of Commercial, REGA ENERGY.

Certeca recently completed the installation of a photovoltaic solar park in Anadia replacing the annual emission of 514 tons of CO2, equivalent to planting 13,191 trees. The company is investing in renewable energy across its manufacturing process, making products more sustainable.
